Monday, 06 May 2013 18:23

Always pursuing the quest for excellence, elegance and innovation, the House of Harry Winston deftly blends modernity and timelessness The master designers and diamond setters at Harry Winston worked tirelessly to create an extremely precise and complex setting. Every diamond is selected, cut and set in-house, at the Harry Winston Manufacture in Geneva, by the brand’s master gem specialists. Only the House of Harry Winston – with a rich heritage in diamonds – could set such an intricate piece totally in house.

There are only a few different ways you can measure time in a mechanical watch, but when it comes to showing it, the field is wide open to inventiveness and originality.

The fairytale; One-of-a-kind bridal ring by Polly Wales

Rapunzel bridal jewellery drew our attention especially that wedding season is behind the corner; One-of-a-kind in every sense, they have the kind of ethereal, romantic quality that makes it quite possible to imagine the fairytale princess with the flowing blonde locks skipping off with one of Polly's rings on her finger and living happily ever after. The raw, unconventional beauty of Polly's work is created by an ancient jewellery-making technique known as lost wax casting, which creates the impression that, rather than being precisely set, the gemstones have serendipitously found their way into the gold. The lack of precision is what makes the pieces so charming. Each irregularly shaped gold bead has been carved by hand and each minute stone hand-cast directly into 18ct gold.

Polly said "My current collections are made by casting precious stones, such as sapphires and rubies, directly into gold," says Polly. "Onto these I add intricate detailing with minute stones before casting. The stones become set inside and out, part exposed and part buried within, creating pieces that resemble natural gem encrusted forms, like sparkling geodes split open, or discoveries from the deep."

Chopard unveils its first Red Carpet jewel
Friday, 05 April 2013 07:35

Chopard has been official partner of Cannes film festival, and not only does the luxury Swiss jeweller unveil a new Red Carpet collection of haute joaillerie every year, the Palme d'Or award is also designed by Caroline Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard. In keeping with the festival's age, the new Haute Joaillerie Red Carpet collection will feature 66 pieces, many of which are dedicated to the theme of love. Even thought the festival is more than a month away, Chopard has revealed the first Red Carpet piece: a heavily bejewelled flower ring in platinum, set with rubies, tsavorites, emeralds and coloured diamonds. "Diamonds continue to rule the red carpet," says Ms. Scheufele, who, as always, designed this latest Red Carpet ring. The new collection is sure to keep that sentiment alive and kicking.
